Shau Kei Wan sits at the southeastern edge of Hong Kong Islandโslightly out of the way, which is exactly why it stays so quiet, with stretches of beautiful, uncrowded shoreline.
From Shau Kei Wan, you can take the No. 9 double-decker bus and wind your way along a twisting mountain road to reach Shek O Beach. Perhaps because it isnโt the most convenient to get to, the number of people always feels just rightโnot crowded. You can stroll at your own pace, and take your time to look around.

When heading out on a longer trip, Iโd usually bring a camera. But even a mirrorless can feel like a bit of a burden. This time, I brought nothing at allโjust my phone. It also felt like the perfect chance to properly try out the NOMO app.

This app by FLYPIG has been with me for years. Itโs not just about applying filters; it simulates the entire experience of a โcamera + film,โ even down to the interface design.
Different โcamerasโ produce completely different results depending on the scene. This time, I stuck entirely to its simulated 135Ti camera (which seems to emulate C200 film) for shooting.

Traveling lighterโbringing lessโactually matters a lot, especially in hot weather. No heavy bags, no overthinking.
Thatโs where phone photography shines. You just take it out, tap once, and the moment is captured. No preparation, no hesitationโthis is what street photography really feels like.

Roadside shops, slow-moving streets, cars resting in the shade, and those small, easily overlooked corners. Nothing extraordinary, yet just right. The beach is the sameโsome lie down, some chat, some simply drift in thought.
Places like Shek O are perfect for this kind of unhurried wandering and casual shootingโno need to overthink composition.
